Its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and rear electric motor produce a combined 340 KW (456 HP / 462 PS) and 709 NM. A 19 KWH lithium-ion battery provides up to 89 KM WLTP pure-electric range, while 0-100 KM/H takes just 4.8 seconds.

The refreshed cabin is centred around a larger 11.2-INCH portrait touchscreen, replacing the previous 9-inch display.

A separate 12.3-INCH digital driver display sits directly ahead of the driver.

The dashboard uses Natural Driftwood decor, giving the T8 Ultra a warmer Scandinavian appearance than the Metal Mesh trim fitted to the B5 Core.

The centre console incorporates Volvo’s distinctive electronic gear selector, storage compartments, cup holders and a wireless smartphone charger.

Physical controls are deliberately kept to a minimum, with most vehicle functions accessed through the touchscreen.

The latest update also addresses one of the XC60’s ageing areas through its larger 11.2-inch Google-based infotainment screen, while retaining strengths such as Pilot Assist, 360-degree camera, panoramic roof, Head-Up Display and 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio.

The Ultra’s Active Air Suspension is particularly significant, giving it a comfort advantage over the less expensive B5 Core while also improving body control.

At RM362,888 OTR without insurance, it commands a RM34,000 premium over the B5 Core, but gains substantially more performance, plug-in capability, 89 KM of electric driving and the higher-end Ultra equipment package.

Its main limitation is the 6.4 KW AC-only charging system, with no DC fast-charging capability. For owners able to charge regularly at home, however, the combination of 89 KM WLTP EV range, 709 NM, AWD and Volvo’s extensive safety technology makes the XC60 T8 one of the more complete premium PHEVs in its segment.
