Volvo EX30

The Volvo EX30 is the Swedish marque’s smallest fully electric SUV, combining minimalist Scandinavian styling, strong safety technology and a compact urban-friendly footprint.

Following the September 2026 introduction of the EX30 Cross Country, the Malaysian line-up has been revised to two locally assembled variants: the EX30 Ultra MY27 at RM198,888 and the more rugged EX30 Cross Country at RM218,888. The previous Ultra Twin Performance is no longer part of the current line-up.

The Ultra uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain producing 272 HP and 343 NM, while the Cross Country takes over the performance role with dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 428 HP and 543 NM.

The dashboard adopts an extremely minimalist horizontal layout, with most driving and vehicle functions concentrated into a centrally mounted 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen.

A dashboard-width soundbar design eliminates conventional door-mounted front speakers and helps create additional door storage.

The floating centre console provides open storage, a wireless charging area and a sliding storage arrangement designed to maximise usable cabin space.

There is no separate conventional driver's instrument cluster.

Speed, range, navigation information and driver-assistance information are instead displayed in the upper portion of the central 12.3-inch touchscreen.

Five seats are provided, with electrically adjustable front seats and four-way driver's lumbar adjustment.

The cabin uses recycled and renewable materials, with combinations including Textile and Nordico upholstery. The Cross Country features an Indigo-themed interior with denim decorative trim.

Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the EX30 accommodates five occupants. Front accommodation is generous, although rear legroom is more compact compared to larger Volvo SUVs.

The flat EV floor helps improve usable passenger space.

The multifunction steering wheel provides controls for driver assistance, infotainment and other frequently used functions.

Steering weight can also be adjusted through the vehicle settings.

Large door pockets, front floor storage, centre-console compartments, rear phone storage and a removable rear storage box provide numerous small-item storage solutions.

A clever sliding cup-holder tray is integrated into the centre armrest and can extend to accommodate one or two drinks when required.

Front and rear USB-C ports are provided, together with wireless smartphone charging.

A 12-V outlet is located in the luggage compartment.

The EX30 uses a minimalist mix of soft-touch areas, recycled decorative materials and textured surfaces. Its design prioritises sustainability and visual simplicity rather than traditional luxury trim.

Boot capacity stands at 318 litres with the rear seats raised and expands to 718 litres with them folded.

A small 7-litre front storage compartment is also provided beneath the bonnet.

The standard EX30 Ultra measures approximately 4,233 MM long, 1,838 MM wide and 1,550 MM tall, with a 2,650 MM wheelbase.

The Cross Country retains the same compact footprint but gains wider exterior cladding and raised suspension, measuring approximately 4,233 MM long, 1,850 MM wide and 1,567 MM tall. Ground clearance increases by 19 MM to around 190 MM.

The EX30 features Volvo's clean closed-off EV front fascia with a centred Volvo emblem and minimalist Scandinavian surfacing.

The Cross Country adds a dark front shield featuring a topographic representation of Sweden's Kebnekaise mountain range, together with rugged lower bumper treatment and a Vapour Grey skid plate.

Vertically arranged LED lighting gives the EX30 a distinctive Volvo appearance, complemented by a roof spoiler and clean tailgate design.

The Cross Country receives additional dark rear treatment, a protective skid plate and Cross Country-specific detailing.

LED headlights feature Volvo's modern interpretation of the signature Thor's Hammer lighting design, together with active high beam functionality.

LED tail lamps use a vertically split design that extends upwards along the rear pillars, giving the compact SUV a distinctive appearance at night.

Electrically adjustable and folding door mirrors are accompanied by auto-dimming functionality and integrated ground illumination.

The EX30 Ultra rides on 19-inch 5-spoke glossy black diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The Cross Country receives unique 19-inch matte black alloy wheels with higher-profile tyres, complementing its raised ride height and more rugged character.

Safety systems include collision avoidance and mitigation, autonomous emergency braking, intersection autobrake, oncoming vehicle mitigation, lane departure warning, Lane Keeping Aid, rear collision warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with braking.

Occupant protection includes front, side and curtain airbags, a far-side driver's airbag, ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, Whiplash Injury Protection and Volvo's reinforced passenger safety structure.

Selectable driving modes allow the EX30 to alter power delivery and vehicle behaviour, including Standard, Range and Performance settings where applicable.

One Pedal Drive, adjustable steering feel and Hill Descent Control are also available.

A 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen incorporates Google built-in services including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 5G connectivity, over-the-air software updates and Volvo Cars App connectivity are also available.

Equipment includes Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot Information System with Steer Assist, Driver Alert System, door-opening alert, front and rear parking sensors, Park Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera with 3D view.

The Malaysian EX30 is equipped with a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, featuring Volvo's distinctive dashboard-mounted soundbar arrangement.

Both current EX30 variants use a 69 KWH NMC lithium-ion battery, with approximately 65 KWH of usable capacity.

The EX30 Ultra MY27 uses a rear-mounted single electric motor producing 272 HP and 343 NM.

The EX30 Cross Country uses dual electric motors producing a combined 428 HP and 543 NM.

Both variants use a single-speed automatic reduction transmission typical of fully electric vehicles.

EX30 Ultra MY27: Rear-wheel drive.

EX30 Cross Country: All-wheel drive.

The Cross Country also receives model-specific chassis and steering calibration together with its raised suspension.

The EX30 Ultra MY27 accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 5.3 seconds.

The EX30 Cross Country completes 0-100 KM/H in 3.7 seconds.

Both have an electronically limited top speed of 180 KM/H.

Being fully electric, conventional fuel consumption does not apply.

The EX30 Ultra offers up to 475 KM WLTP of driving range, while the Cross Country offers up to 437 KM WLTP.

The Ultra records combined energy consumption of approximately 17.0 KWH/100 KM.

Both support an 11 KW AC onboard charger, requiring around eight hours for a full AC recharge, while DC fast charging reaches up to 175 KW. A 10-80% DC charge takes approximately 27-28 minutes.

Convenience features include keyless access, Digital Key Plus, electrically adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate, wireless smartphone charging, automatic wipers, a panoramic glass roof and dual-zone climate control.

The EX30 does not feature dedicated adjustable rear air-conditioning vents.

Airflow for the rear passenger compartment is instead supplied through the vehicle's climate system.

The standard EX30 uses Volvo's comfort-oriented suspension calibration while retaining responsive handling suitable for urban driving.

The Cross Country gains an additional 19 MM of ground clearance and specific chassis tuning aimed at improving stability and comfort over rougher roads and loose surfaces.

The electric powertrain provides naturally quiet low-speed operation, while aerodynamic optimisation and cabin insulation help suppress wind and road noise during normal driving.

The Cross Country's higher-profile tyres and more rugged setup may introduce slightly more tyre noise compared with the standard Ultra.

The updated Volvo EX30 range is simpler and more clearly differentiated than before.

At RM198,888, the MY27 EX30 Ultra is the range-focused choice, combining 272 HP, rear-wheel drive and up to 475 KM WLTP range.

For RM218,888, the EX30 Cross Country adds dual-motor AWD, 428 HP performance, 19 MM additional ground clearance and distinctive Cross Country styling while still offering up to 437 KM WLTP.

With the previous Ultra Twin Performance removed, the Cross Country now serves as the EX30's performance flagship while giving buyers considerably more visual and mechanical differentiation for the RM20,000 premium.
