The Kia EV9 is Kia’s flagship fully electric three-row SUV, built on the dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and featuring an advanced 800-VOLT charging architecture.

The current Malaysian range consists of two fully imported GT-Line AWD variants differentiated primarily by seating configuration – GT-Line AWD 7-Seater and GT-Line AWD 6-Seater. Current official selling prices are RM368,888 and RM373,888 respectively.

The EV9 features Kia’s wide panoramic triple-screen dashboard.

A 12.3-INCH digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the driver, joined by a central 5-INCH climate-control display and a second 12.3-INCH infotainment touchscreen.

The three displays are visually integrated into one wide panel stretching across much of the dashboard.

The flat-floor E-GMP architecture allows the centre-console area to provide extensive storage without requiring a conventional transmission tunnel.

The console incorporates an armrest, wireless smartphone charger, cup holders and additional storage compartments.

A column-mounted Shift-By-Wire selector frees further space between the front occupants.

The EV9 introduces Kia’s distinctive Digital Tiger Face design.

A largely enclosed front panel replaces the conventional radiator grille, while geometric body surfacing and vertically arranged lighting give the EV9 a futuristic appearance.

The GT-Line specification adds distinctive digital-inspired detailing and a more technical front bumper treatment.

The rear adopts a near-vertical tailgate, helping maximise interior and luggage capacity.

Vertical lighting elements extend along the outer corners of the body, while a large roof spoiler and sculpted rear bumper complement the EV9’s boxy silhouette.

A Smart Power Tailgate automatically opens when the keyholder remains behind the vehicle for several seconds.

The Malaysian EV9 GT-Line features Small Cube Projection LED headlamps.

Automatic headlamp operation, LED daytime running lights and High Beam Assist are standard.

The distinctive vertical lighting arrangement forms one of the EV9’s most recognisable exterior elements.

The EV9 uses full-LED rear combination lamps with vertical graphics extending around the outer edges of the body.

LED rear fog lamps and a high-mounted brake lamp are also provided.

A particularly unusual feature of the Malaysian EV9 is its Digital Side Mirror system.

Conventional exterior mirrors are replaced by compact exterior cameras, with their live images displayed on dedicated screens positioned near the left and right A-pillars.

The setup provides a wider viewing angle while reducing aerodynamic drag compared with conventional mirror housings.

The EV9 uses ventilated disc brakes at both the front and rear.

Regenerative braking works together with the conventional braking system to recover energy during deceleration.

Both Malaysian variants ride on 21-INCH alloy wheels.

These are fitted with substantial 285/45 R21 tyres, providing the footprint required for such a large and powerful electric SUV.

Active safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control.

Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and Multi-Collision Braking are also standard.

Parking protection is particularly comprehensive, with Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist for the front, rear and sides.

The Malaysian EV9 features seven airbags, comprising dual front airbags, front-side airbags, curtain airbags and a centre-side airbag.

Both GT-Line variants feature a premium 14-speaker Meridian surround sound system.

Being fully electric, the EV9 uses two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, with one positioned at each axle.

The RM368,888 GT-Line AWD 7-Seater is the more practical family choice, using a conventional second-row bench and providing seating for seven.

For just RM5,000 more, the RM373,888 GT-Line AWD 6-Seater replaces that bench with two powered Relaxion captain chairs featuring ottomans, making it considerably more appealing for buyers prioritising second-row comfort.

Both retain the EV9’s outstanding equipment package, including digital side mirrors, Digital Centre Mirror, Head-Up Display, Meridian audio, extensive ADAS, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 and V2L.

Its combination of 505 KM WLTP range and 24-minute 10-80% charging capability remains competitive, while the huge cabin and genuine third-row usability make the EV9 one of Malaysia’s most complete large electric family SUVs.
