After all, the government's strict new CBU EV import regulations, which mandate a minimum CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value of RM200,000 and a minimum output of 180kW, just took effect on July 1.

The Rumor vs. The Reality: Why Did Prices Change?

When MITI announced its updated framework requiring imported CBU electric vehicles to clear a RM200,000 pre-tax CIF floor and 180kW power output starting July 1, industry observers speculated that entry-level imported EVs might face massive price hikes.

However, when July 1 arrived, Tesla maintained its pricing entirely. The subsequent price bump mid-month was caused by Tesla's global pricing recalibration, a routine adjustment driven by supply chain shifts, production costs, and component shortages (such as the recent global RAM constraints affecting tech and auto industries).

Tesla operates a direct-to-consumer model in Malaysia without local franchise AP dealership markups, allowing them to adjust pricing dynamically based on global manufacturing overhead.

• An RM1,400 increase adds roughly ~RM15 per month.
• An RM3,000 increase adds roughly ~RM32 per month.

Crucially, the entry-level Model 3 RWD sneaking in at RM149,000 means it stays under the psychological RM150,000 barrier. This positioning keeps it competitive against traditional C-segment ICE sedans like the Honda Civic RS, while providing electric performance.
