The MG Cyberster is a fully electric two-seat roadster that revives MG’s traditional open-top sports car formula with a modern EV drivetrain, electrically operated soft top and dramatic scissor doors.

The current Malaysian range comprises two variants – Cyberster RWD and Cyberster 4WD – with selling prices of RM299,900 and RM319,900 respectively.

Both use a 77 KWH NCM battery. The RWD produces 250 KW (335 HP) and 475 NM, while the dual-motor 4WD increases output to 400 KW (536 HP) and 725 NM.

Maximum WLTP range stands at 508 KM for the RWD and 446 KM for the 4WD.

The Cyberster uses a dramatic driver-focused cockpit centred around a wraparound three-screen digital arrangement.

A 10.25-INCH central driver display is flanked by two 7-INCH auxiliary screens, creating a curved digital environment around the steering wheel.

A separate 7-INCH infotainment touchscreen is positioned lower within the centre console.

The tall centre console divides the two occupants and reinforces the sports-car driving position.

It incorporates the infotainment screen, vehicle controls, storage areas and cup holders.

Metal pedals and the low seating position further emphasise the Cyberster’s performance character.

The driver faces a 10.25-INCH digital instrument display flanked by two 7-inch auxiliary screens.

Together, the three-screen arrangement displays speed, navigation, vehicle data, battery information and assistance-system functions.

The layout creates a much more cockpit-like environment than a conventional single-screen EV dashboard.

Both variants feature Y-shaped electrically adjustable sports seats upholstered in leather with Alcantara inserts.

The driver and passenger seats both provide six-way electric adjustment with lumbar support.

The low seating position places occupants close to the vehicle’s centre of gravity, reinforcing the roadster-style driving experience.

The Cyberster is strictly a two-seat roadster.

Passenger space is focused entirely on the driver and front passenger, with no rear seating.

The wide cabin provides reasonable shoulder room, although the low roof and thick centre console create a more enclosed cockpit feel when the soft top is raised.

The MG sports steering wheel features a distinctive flat-bottom design and integrated controls for vehicle and infotainment functions.

Both tilt and telescopic adjustment are provided.

A dedicated performance-oriented layout gives the driver rapid access to drive settings and assistance functions.

Cabin storage is relatively limited due to the Cyberster’s compact two-seat layout.

Small-item storage is available within the centre console, door pockets and other cabin compartments.

Its focus remains firmly on driving rather than everyday family practicality.

The Cyberster provides two front cup holders within the centre-console area.

No rear cup holders are provided because the vehicle accommodates only two occupants.

The cabin provides two USB ports for mobile devices.

A 12 V power socket is also included.

The vehicle additionally supports Vehicle-to-Load functionality, allowing compatible external devices to draw power from the high-voltage battery.

The interior combines leather, Alcantara, metallic detailing and sports-oriented trim.

The electrically operated scissor doors and wraparound digital cockpit provide a strong sense of occasion despite the Cyberster’s relatively simple cabin architecture.

Overall presentation is considerably more performance-focused than MG’s mainstream passenger models.

Boot capacity stands at 249 L for both variants.

While modest compared with a conventional sedan or SUV, the luggage compartment remains usable for smaller weekend bags despite the packaging requirements of the retractable soft top.

Both Cyberster variants measure 4,535 MM long, 1,913 MM wide and 1,329 MM tall, with a 2,690 MM wheelbase.

Kerb weight is approximately 1,885 KG for the RWD and 1,985 KG for the 4WD.

Its low roofline, long bonnet and wide stance create classic roadster proportions despite the substantial weight of its electric drivetrain.

The Cyberster adopts a low and sculpted front end with pronounced front fenders and a relatively short overhang.

An Active Grille System opens or closes according to cooling requirements, while integrated air curtains help manage airflow around the front wheels.

The smooth front surfacing gives the Cyberster a distinctly modern appearance without abandoning traditional sports car proportions.

The rear is characterised by broad haunches, a short deck and dramatic arrow-shaped lighting graphics.

Its powered fabric roof folds beneath the rear deck, allowing the Cyberster to transform from a closed coupé-like profile into an open-top roadster.

A pronounced rear diffuser further emphasises its performance positioning.

The Cyberster features distinctive Storm Eye automatic LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights.

Intelligent High Beam Control automatically manages high-beam operation according to surrounding traffic.

Follow-Me-Home lighting is also standard.

The rear uses distinctive arrow-shaped full-LED tail lamps.

Their directional graphics extend outward towards the corners of the body, giving the Cyberster one of the most recognisable rear lighting signatures among current EVs.

A high-mounted LED brake lamp and rear fog lamp are also fitted.

Exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and power-folding.

Integrated indicators and Blind Spot Detection warnings improve visibility and safety.

The mirrors automatically fold when the car is locked.

Both variants feature Brembo front disc brakes combined with conventional rear disc brakes.

An Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold is standard.

Three levels of Kinetic Energy Recovery System regenerative braking supplement the friction brakes during everyday driving.

The Cyberster RWD rides on 19-INCH alloy wheels fitted with staggered 245/45 R19 front and 275/40 R19 rear tyres.

The Cyberster 4WD upgrades to 20-INCH alloy wheels with 245/40 R20 front and 275/35 R20 rear tyres.

The staggered setup provides greater rear grip and reinforces the roadster’s low, wide stance.

Active safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Electronic Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme and Traction Control.

Hill Start Assist, Stability Control System and an Electronic Differential System are also provided.

A 360-degree Surround View camera and front and rear parking sensors assist during low-speed manoeuvres.

The Cyberster is equipped with four airbags, comprising dual front airbags and front-side airbags.

Two three-point seat belts and seatbelt reminders are provided.

The battery structure is integrated low within the chassis, contributing to a low centre of gravity while receiving dedicated impact protection.

The Cyberster provides five selectable drive modes.

These alter accelerator response, steering and drivetrain behaviour according to the driver’s preference.

Both variants also include Launch Control, while the 4WD model is able to exploit its dual-motor traction for substantially stronger acceleration.

Three regenerative-braking levels are available through the KERS system.

The Cyberster features a 7-INCH central infotainment touchscreen supported by its three-screen driver display arrangement.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and other vehicle functions are integrated into the digital cockpit.

Both variants receive the MG Pilot driver-assistance suite.

Systems include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

Also included are Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist and Traffic Jam Assist.

Intelligent High Beam Control further supports nighttime driving.

Both variants feature an eight-speaker BOSE premium audio system.

The system is designed around the compact two-seat cabin and remains usable with the soft top raised or lowered.

Being fully electric, the Cyberster uses electric motors instead of a combustion engine.

The RWD uses a single rear-mounted motor producing 250 KW (335 HP) and 475 NM.

The 4WD adds a front motor for a combined output of 400 KW (536 HP) and 725 NM.

Both variants use a single-speed automatic electric reduction transmission.

Electric torque is therefore delivered without conventional multi-speed gear changes.

The Cyberster RWD sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

The Cyberster 4WD uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, with one electric motor driving each axle.

The additional front motor significantly improves traction and straight-line performance.

The Cyberster RWD accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 5.0 seconds and reaches approximately 195 KM/H.

The significantly more powerful Cyberster 4WD completes the same sprint in just 3.2 seconds, with maximum speed exceeding 200 KM/H.

Launch Control is standard across both variants.

As fully electric vehicles, both Cyberster variants consume no petrol or diesel.

Both use a 77 KWH NCM lithium-ion battery operating on a 400-VOLT electrical architecture.

The RWD provides up to 508 KM WLTP, while the more powerful 4WD provides up to 446 KM WLTP.

Maximum AC charging input is 7 KW.

DC fast charging reaches 150 KW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10-80% in approximately 38 minutes under suitable conditions.

Vehicle-to-Load functionality is also provided.

The Cyberster’s signature feature is its electrically operated frameless scissor doors, giving the roadster an unusually dramatic entry and exit experience.

A powered retractable fabric soft top, keyless operation, automatic rain-sensing wipers and electrically folding mirrors are also standard.

The cabin additionally provides dual-zone automatic climate control and electrically adjustable seats.

The Cyberster does not feature rear air-conditioning vents, as it is strictly a two-seat roadster.

A dual-zone automatic climate-control system provides independent temperature adjustment for the driver and passenger.

Both variants use double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link multi-link rear suspension.

The sophisticated independent setup provides the geometry required for a performance-oriented sports car while retaining acceptable road comfort.

Its low-mounted battery gives the Cyberster a low centre of gravity, although the 4WD’s larger 20-inch wheels and nearly two-tonne kerb weight remain noticeable over poorer surfaces.

With the fabric roof raised, the Cyberster provides reasonable insulation for an open-top sports car, while the electric drivetrain eliminates conventional engine vibration.

Wind and tyre noise naturally become more prominent at highway speeds compared with a fixed-roof vehicle.

With the roof lowered, refinement becomes secondary to the open-air driving experience.

The MG Cyberster occupies a highly unusual position in Malaysia as one of the very few fully electric two-seat roadsters available at any price.

The RM299,900 RWD is arguably the more balanced variant, combining 335 HP, 475 NM, rear-wheel drive and 508 KM WLTP range, while retaining the same scissor doors, BOSE audio, digital cockpit and MG Pilot equipment as the flagship model.

The RM319,900 4WD adds only RM20,000 but increases output dramatically to 536 HP and 725 NM, adds all-wheel drive and cuts the 0-100 KM/H time from 5.0 to just 3.2 seconds. The trade-off is reduced range at 446 KM WLTP and greater weight.

Its 150 KW DC charging and 7 KW AC capability are no longer particularly advanced by current EV standards, while two-seat practicality and a 249 L boot naturally limit everyday versatility.

However, the combination of electric scissor doors, open-top motoring, rear- or all-wheel-drive performance and sub-RM320,000 pricing gives the Cyberster a level of visual drama and character that very few EVs can match.
