MIFA 9

The Maxus MIFA 9 is a fully electric seven-seat luxury MPV and was the first battery-electric MPV officially launched in Malaysia.

The current Malaysian line-up consists of two fully imported variants – Luxury and Premium – priced at RM269,888 and RM289,888 respectively, on-the-road without insurance. The model continues into 2026 without a major specification update.

Both variants use a single front-mounted electric motor producing 180 KW (241 HP) and 350 NM, paired with a 90 KWH ternary lithium-ion battery. WLTP range stands at 435 KM for the Luxury and 430 KM for the Premium.

The MIFA 9 combines a relatively minimalist dashboard with a 12.3-INCH central infotainment touchscreen.

A separate 7-INCH digital instrument cluster sits directly ahead of the driver.

The cabin also features 64-colour ambient lighting, helping create a more premium atmosphere after dark.

A broad centre console separates the front occupants and provides storage, cup holders and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

The electronic drivetrain selector requires considerably less space than a conventional automatic transmission lever, helping maintain a clean front-cabin layout.

A 7-INCH digital instrument cluster displays essential information including speed, battery level, remaining range and driver-assistance status.

The relatively small driver display is supplemented by the much larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen positioned centrally on the dashboard.

Both variants feature powered front seats with lumbar support, while the second-row captain chairs provide heating, ventilation, massage and Ottoman leg-rest functions.

The Premium adds heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, together with driver-seat memory.

Its second-row captain chairs additionally receive individual control screens and foldable tables, while upholstery is upgraded from the Luxury’s knitted material to chamois leather.

The MIFA 9 accommodates seven occupants in a 2+2+3 seating configuration.

Its exceptionally long 3,200 MM wheelbase provides generous legroom throughout all three rows.

The second row uses two individual captain chairs with a central walkway providing easier access to the third row.

A multifunction steering wheel combines microfibre and leather trim.

Audio, infotainment and assistance functions can be controlled from the steering wheel.

Both tilt and telescopic steering adjustment are provided.

The large cabin provides extensive storage through the centre console, glove compartment and sizeable door pockets.

Additional compartments are positioned throughout the three-row cabin for smaller personal belongings.

Premium second-row occupants additionally benefit from individual folding tables.

The MIFA 9 provides two front and two rear dedicated cup holders.

Additional bottle storage is incorporated within the large door compartments.

USB charging connectivity is provided throughout the cabin for front and rear passengers.

A wireless smartphone charging pad is also standard.

A conventional power socket is provided for compatible cabin accessories.

The cabin combines soft-touch materials, metallic trim and extensive ambient lighting with a clean luxury-MPV layout.

The Luxury uses knitted seat upholstery, while the Premium receives chamois leather upholstery and additional powered comfort functions.

The Premium therefore delivers a noticeably richer interior experience despite sharing the same basic dashboard architecture.

Current Malaysian specification data lists luggage capacity at approximately 1,010 L.

The tall rear body and large powered tailgate provide a particularly useful loading opening, while the third-row seating can be folded when additional cargo room is required.

The MIFA 9 measures 5,270 MM long, 2,000 MM wide and 1,840 MM tall, with an exceptionally long 3,200 MM wheelbase.

Kerb weight stands at approximately 2,410 KG for the Luxury and 2,535 KG for the Premium.

Its substantial dimensions place it firmly within the full-size luxury MPV class, with a wheelbase even longer than many conventional premium people movers.

The front adopts a highly distinctive futuristic design dominated by a wide horizontal lighting graphic and almost completely enclosed upper fascia.

A large lower intake provides cooling for the electrical and thermal-management systems, while sculpted vertical elements at the corners emphasise the MIFA 9’s considerable width.

The rear uses a tall, nearly vertical tailgate to maximise passenger and luggage space.

A roof-mounted spoiler sits above the large rear window, while the lighting graphic stretches across much of the vehicle’s width.

Both variants feature a contactless powered tailgate.

Both variants are equipped with full-LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

Automatic headlamp operation and automatic high-beam functionality are also included as part of the standard equipment package.

The MIFA 9 uses distinctive full-LED tail lamps with a wide horizontal lighting treatment.

LED rear fog lamps and a high-mounted brake lamp provide additional rear visibility.

Exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable, power-folding and heated.

Integrated LED direction indicators are also provided.

The Premium additionally features a digital video rear-view mirror, while the Luxury uses a conventional auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror.

The MIFA 9 uses four-wheel disc brakes supported by regenerative braking from its electric drivetrain.

Standard electronic braking systems include ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme and Auto Hold.

An Electronic Parking Brake is standard across both variants.

Both variants ride on 19-INCH alloy wheels, although each receives a different wheel design.

Tyres measure 235/55 R19, with Continental EcoContact 6 tyres listed for the Malaysian specification.

The Luxury is supplied with a tyre-repair kit, while the Premium uses run-flat tyres.

Active safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme and Tyre Pressure Monitoring.

A 360-degree camera system, front parking sensors and rear parking sensors are also standard.

Front and rear Autonomous Emergency Braking further reduce collision risk.

The MIFA 9 features front, side and full-length curtain airbags.

All seven seating positions receive three-point seat belts and seatbelt reminders.

ISOFIX child-seat mounting points are provided, while the model achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Three selectable drive modes are provided – Eco, Normal and Sport.

Eco prioritises energy efficiency, while Sport provides sharper accelerator response.

Regenerative braking operates alongside the conventional friction braking system.

A 12.3-INCH central touchscreen provides the main infotainment interface.

It supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, together with media and vehicle functions.

Both variants receive a comprehensive driver-assistance package.

Systems include Adaptive Cruise Control, Integrated Cruise Assist, Front and Rear Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Change Assist.

Also included are Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Collision Warning, Driver Monitoring, Speed Assist and Automatic High Beam.

The Luxury uses an eight-speaker audio system.

The Premium upgrades to a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system, providing one of the main equipment differences between the two variants.

Being fully electric, the MIFA 9 replaces a combustion engine with a single front-mounted electric motor.

Both variants produce 180 KW (241 HP) and 350 NM.

There is no performance difference between the Luxury and Premium.

The electric motor is connected to a single-speed automatic electric reduction transmission.

Electric torque is delivered directly without conventional multi-speed gear changes.

Both variants use front-wheel drive.

The single electric motor exclusively powers the front axle.

The drivetrain prioritises smoothness and efficiency rather than the substantially higher outputs now offered by newer dual-motor electric MPVs.

Both the Luxury and Premium accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in 9.2 seconds.

Maximum speed stands at 180 KM/H.

Performance is therefore adequate for a large luxury people mover rather than particularly rapid by current EV standards.

As a fully electric vehicle, the MIFA 9 consumes no petrol or diesel.

Both variants use a 90 KWH ternary lithium-ion battery operating on a 400-VOLT electrical architecture.

The lighter Luxury provides 435 KM WLTP, while the heavier Premium provides 430 KM WLTP.

Maximum AC charging input is 11 KW, with a 5-100% recharge requiring approximately 8.5 hours.

DC fast charging reaches 120 KW, allowing a 30-80% recharge in approximately 30 minutes under suitable conditions.

Both variants feature keyless entry and start, dual powered sliding side doors, automatic wipers and a contactless powered tailgate.

Another unusual feature is the provision of powered sunroofs for both the front and rear sections of the cabin.

Privacy glass, wireless smartphone charging and four automatic anti-pinch windows are also standard.

The MIFA 9 features automatic climate control with dedicated rear air-conditioning vents and separate rear blower adjustment.

An integrated air-cleaning system further improves cabin air quality.

The large cabin receives multiple airflow outlets to provide cooling across all three seating rows.

The MIFA 9 uses MacPherson strut front suspension and an independent multi-link rear arrangement.

Its long 3,200 MM wheelbase contributes to stable highway behaviour, while the suspension is tuned primarily around passenger comfort rather than aggressive handling.

The relatively high-profile 235/55 R19 tyres also provide useful compliance over uneven road surfaces.

The electric drivetrain removes the engine vibration and combustion noise traditionally associated with large MPVs.

The substantial body structure, privacy glass and luxury-focused cabin insulation further help reduce external noise.

Road and wind noise become more noticeable at higher speeds, but overall refinement remains appropriate for a chauffeur-oriented electric MPV.

The Maxus MIFA 9 remains one of the largest fully electric MPVs available in Malaysia, with its 5,270 MM body, 3,200 MM wheelbase and seven-seat 2+2+3 cabin providing exceptional passenger space.

At RM269,888, the Luxury already includes the same 241 HP, 350 NM, 90 KWH battery, 120 KW DC charging and comprehensive ADAS package as the more expensive model while actually providing the slightly longer 435 KM WLTP range.

The RM289,888 Premium does not increase performance, but adds a significantly more luxurious cabin specification through heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, driver memory, enhanced second-row controls, foldable tables, chamois leather, digital rear-view mirror and 12-speaker JBL audio.

Its biggest weaknesses are now technological. 120 KW DC charging, 430-435 KM WLTP range and a 9.2-second 0-100 KM/H time have been surpassed by newer electric MPVs such as the XPENG X9 and Zeekr 009.

Nevertheless, for buyers prioritising sheer cabin space, luxurious second-row seating and a relatively traditional seven-seat MPV layout, the MIFA 9 remains a capable electric people mover.
