Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is the fully electric open-top version of the GranTurismo, combining four-seat grand touring with Maserati's high-performance Folgore electric architecture.

First unveiled globally on 15 April 2024, it is currently listed by Maserati Malaysia as a MY2025 model. The GranCabrio Folgore uses three electric motors, an 800-volt electrical architecture and all-wheel drive, producing an official 761 HP and 1,350 NM.

It accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in just 2.8 seconds and reaches 290 KM/H. Maserati Malaysia currently does not publish an official Malaysian starting price for the GranCabrio Folgore.

The cabin combines traditional Italian grand-touring materials with a heavily digitalised interface.

A 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the driver, while the centre stack incorporates Maserati's touchscreen-based Intelligent Assistant system and separate comfort-control display.

The centre console uses a compact digital transmission selector, allowing the surrounding area to remain relatively clean and uncluttered.

Carbon-fibre trim with copper detailing reinforces the Folgore's performance-oriented EV identity.

A configurable 12.2-inch Full Digital Cluster provides speed, navigation, energy-flow information, battery status and driving data.

An available head-up display places additional information directly within the driver's field of view.

Four individual seating positions are provided.

The front seats combine extensive electric adjustment with premium upholstery, while Folgore-specific materials include ECONYL regenerated nylon alongside leather and carbon-fibre trim.

The open-top cabin can also be equipped with a neck warmer, allowing occupants to remain comfortable with the roof lowered in cooler conditions.

Unlike many high-performance convertibles, the GranCabrio is designed as a genuine four-seater.

The 2,929 MM wheelbase provides usable rear accommodation for two passengers, although rear space remains more suited to grand touring than limousine-style comfort. 

The multifunction steering wheel incorporates controls for vehicle functions and drive-mode selection.

Its layout allows the driver to move between the Folgore's different performance settings without relying solely on the centre display.

Cabin storage is centred around the centre console, door compartments and smaller trays designed primarily for everyday personal items.

Practicality remains secondary to the GranCabrio's four-seat grand-touring layout.

Cup holders are incorporated into the centre-console area for front occupants, with additional provisions for rear passengers.

USB connectivity and wireless smartphone charging are integrated into the cabin.

The vehicle itself uses an 800-V charging architecture, supporting both high-power DC and AC charging.

The Folgore combines premium leather, ECONYL regenerated material and three-dimensional carbon-fibre trim with copper accents.

Its interior emphasises Italian craftsmanship while using distinctive materials to separate the electric model from the petrol GranCabrio.

The electric powertrain and folding roof mechanism therefore limit luggage capacity compared with the GranTurismo coupé.

Despite its battery-electric powertrain and convertible roof mechanism, the GranCabrio retains the low and wide proportions of the GranTurismo.

The Folgore retains Maserati's signature low-set grille and prominent Trident emblem, accompanied by vertically oriented lighting and a long sculpted bonnet.

Folgore-specific elements include dark-copper badging and distinctive detailing intended to differentiate the EV from the combustion-powered GranCabrio.

The rear features slim LED tail lamps inspired by the MC20, a sculpted boot lid and an aerodynamic lower diffuser.

With no exhaust system required, the Folgore adopts cleaner lower-body treatment than its V6-powered siblings.

Full LED headlights provide the GranCabrio with its distinctive vertical lighting signature while maintaining the low nose and wide stance of the GranTurismo family. 

Full LED tail lamps use Maserati's contemporary boomerang-inspired lighting treatment, giving the rear a wide and low visual appearance.

The GranCabrio features electrically adjustable, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, designed to complement its frameless-door grand-tourer profile.

High-performance friction brakes work together with strong regenerative braking from the electric motors.

The Folgore can recover substantial energy under braking, with regeneration forming an important part of both its efficiency and high-performance driving characteristics.

The different front and rear widths are designed to balance traction, handling and stability under the Folgore's substantial output. 

The GranCabrio Folgore incorporates Maserati Stability Program, traction control, ABS, electronic braking systems, tyre-pressure monitoring and high-performance regenerative braking.

Its electronic chassis systems continuously manage the substantial torque available from the three electric motors.

The GranCabrio combines a rigid aluminium-intensive body structure with multiple airbags, seatbelt restraint systems and rollover-oriented structural protection appropriate to its convertible body style.

The more aggressive settings alter accelerator response, torque distribution, traction management and chassis behaviour, with Corsa allowing the electric drivetrain to deliver its strongest performance.

A 12.3-inch Maserati Intelligent Assistant central display forms the main infotainment interface.

The Android-based system supports smartphone integration, navigation, connected functions and voice commands.

A secondary touchscreen handles comfort and other vehicle controls.

Maserati equips the GranCabrio with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, providing automated driving support during normal road use while retaining driver supervision.

A Sonus faber audio system provides the GranCabrio's premium cabin audio experience.

Maserati also offers a High Premium 16-speaker Sonus faber system, engineered specifically around the convertible cabin. 

There is no combustion engine.

The GranCabrio Folgore uses three electric motors — one at the front and two independently controlling the rear axle.

Energy is supplied by a 92.5 KWH nominal battery using an 800-V electrical architecture. 

Each electric motor operates through a fixed-ratio reduction gear, eliminating the need for a conventional multi-speed automatic transmission.

The GranCabrio Folgore uses all-wheel drive.

The 800-V architecture is one of the GranCabrio Folgore's key advantages, allowing sustained high-power DC charging.

The electrically operated fabric roof preserves the classic appearance of a luxury convertible while allowing open-top driving without leaving the cabin.

The roof can open in approximately 14 seconds and close in around 16 seconds, and can be operated at speeds of up to approximately 50 KM/H.

Dedicated rear air ducts help provide climate airflow for the two rear passengers.

Dual-zone automatic climate control manages the primary cabin temperature.

Adaptive suspension and electronically controlled damping balance the Folgore's considerable performance capability with its grand-touring role.

Its low-mounted battery also reduces the centre of gravity despite the car's substantial 2,340 KG homologated weight.

With the soft-top raised, extensive insulation helps minimise wind and tyre noise during long-distance driving.

Electric propulsion removes conventional engine vibration and cruising noise, while Maserati gives the Folgore its own distinctive acoustic character under acceleration.

Its three-motor AWD system delivers 761 HP and 1,350 NM, giving it a 2.8-second 0-100 KM/H time and 290 KM/H maximum speed, while its 92.5 KWH battery provides 441 KM WLTP range and supports exceptionally quick 270 KW DC charging.

Its limitations are primarily practical. The battery and convertible structure contribute to a 2,340 KG homologated weight, while luggage capacity is only 151 litres with the roof raised. However, it retains genuine four-seat accommodation and combines this with a 22 KW AC charger, sophisticated digital cabin and Maserati's traditional grand-touring approach.
