Jaecoo J5

The Jaecoo J5 is a five-seat B-segment SUV positioned below the larger J7, combining an upright premium-SUV design with strong equipment levels, practical cabin space and a pet-friendly interior.

Malaysia receives a single J5 2WD variant, locally assembled and priced at RM108,000 OTR without insurance. It was officially launched on 5 March 2026.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 145 HP and 210 NM, paired with a CVT driving the front wheels.

The dashboard adopts a horizontal minimalist design dominated by a large portrait touchscreen.

A soft-touch instrument panel, slim integrated air vents and configurable multi-colour ambient lighting contribute to the more premium cabin presentation.

The centre console houses a 50 W ventilated wireless charging pad, cup holders and a centre armrest with storage.

A column-mounted gear selector frees additional space around the console.

The driver receives an 8-inch digital LCD instrument cluster displaying speed, vehicle status, trip information and driver-assistance information.

The cabin uses TÜV-certified pet-friendly leatherette upholstery engineered to be low-VOC, antibacterial, easy to clean and scratch resistant.

The driver's seat offers six-way electric adjustment, while the front passenger gets four-way electric adjustment.

Both front seats are ventilated.

The J5 seats five occupants and benefits from its relatively wide 1,860 MM body and 2,620 MM wheelbase.

The second-row bench measures up to 1,320 MM wide, giving the cabin useful shoulder room for a B-segment SUV.

A leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel provides controls for audio and cruise functions.

Tilt and telescopic steering adjustment is standard.

Storage includes door pockets, centre-console compartments, a ventilated centre-armrest storage box, front seatback pockets and a two-tier luggage floor.

Front cup holders are positioned in the centre console.

Rear passengers receive a folding centre armrest incorporating cup holders.

The J5 combines a soft-touch dashboard, synthetic-leather door trim panels and leatherette upholstery.

Its 23,500 NM/degree body torsional rigidity is also intended to improve structural solidity, refinement and NVH performance.

Boot capacity is 480 litres with all five seats in use.

Folding the 60:40 split rear seatbacks increases capacity to 1,284 litres.

The J5 carries Jaecoo's signature upright design with a large waterfall front grille, vertical chrome-style elements, a broad bonnet and rugged lower bumper treatment.

A front skid plate further emphasises its SUV appearance.

The rear features a wide, horizontal design with slim LED lighting, a roof-mounted spoiler and a rugged lower bumper with protective cladding.

A rear diffuser incorporates the rear fog lamp.

The J5 features automatic LED projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights.

High Beam Assist is also standard.

Slim LED tail and brake lamps form the J5's horizontal rear lighting signature.

An LED high-mounted stop lamp and dual reversing lamps are also fitted.

The exterior mirrors are power-folding, heated and equipped with memory functionality.

Braking hardware consists of:

ABS, EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, electronic parking brake and Auto Hold are standard. 

The J5 rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels fitted with 235/55 R18 tyres.

Standard active-safety equipment includes ABS, EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme, Traction Control, Roll Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Autonomous Emergency Braking and Multi-Collision Braking are also included.

The J5 receives six airbags, comprising front, front-side and curtain airbags.

ISOFIX child-seat anchors, three-point rear seatbelts, rear child locks, front pretensioners and load limiters are also standard.

The drive-mode selector also features memory functionality. 

A 13.2-inch 2K portrait touchscreen is the centrepiece of the infotainment system.

It supports Bluetooth as well as wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Voice assistance with a virtual avatar and an in-car karaoke function are also included.

The J5 features a comprehensive Level 2+ ADAS suite with 19 functions, including:

Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Change Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking, Door Opening Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Evasive Steering Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Integrated Cruise Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Front Vehicle Departure Alert and Active Speed Limiter.

Parking assistance consists of two front and four rear parking sensors plus a 540-degree HD surround-view camera system.

An eight-speaker audio system is standard.

The J5 also offers an integrated karaoke function with mixer-app control.

The J5 is powered by the SQRE4T15C 1,498 CC turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

It features a 16-valve DOHC design with double variable valve timing.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard.

A column-mounted electronic gear selector is used.

The Malaysian J5 is exclusively front-wheel drive.

Suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and independent multi-link suspension at the rear. 

The J5 accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 10.2 seconds.

Top speed is 175 KM/H.

Official Malaysian combined fuel consumption is 6.4 L/100 KM under the Malaysia Driving Cycle (MDC).

Fuel tank capacity is 51 litres.

The J5 has also received Malaysian Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification. 

Convenience equipment includes Passive Entry and Passive Start, keyless start, remote engine start, remote climate activation, automatic window closing when locking, remote window opening and walk-away automatic locking.

A powered tailgate includes remote operation and proximity opening.

The J5 also features a 1.45 M² panoramic moonroof. 

Dedicated rear air-conditioning vents are provided for second-row occupants.

The J5 uses dual-zone automatic climate control. 

The J5 combines MacPherson front suspension with a multi-link independent rear suspension, an uncommon arrangement among Malaysian B-segment SUVs.

The suspension has been tuned with an emphasis on ride comfort, stability and reduced body movement on Malaysian roads.

The J5 features double-glazed front side windows to reduce exterior and wind noise.
