Both variants use an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

The xDrive50e integrates its electric motor directly into the transmission housing.

This allows the PHEV to drive entirely under electric power while retaining conventional multi-speed gearing when the petrol engine is operating.

The xDrive50e uses a 29.5 KWH gross / 25.7 KWH usable lithium-ion battery, providing approximately 94-110 KM WLTP electric range.

Official weighted combined fuel consumption stands at approximately 0.8-1.1 L/100 KM, with electrical consumption of around 22.9-27 KWH/100 KM when measured under the WLTP PHEV cycle.

Maximum AC charging input is 7.4 KW, with a complete 0-100% recharge taking approximately 4.5 hours.

The X5 xDrive50e does not support DC fast charging.

Both variants feature Comfort Access, BMW Digital Key Plus, automatic wipers, powered front seats with memory and an electrically operated split tailgate.

A panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and rear side-window roller sunblinds are also standard.

The Digital Key Plus allows compatible smartphones to unlock the vehicle automatically as the driver approaches.

The X5 features four-zone automatic climate control.

Rear occupants receive dedicated temperature controls and air-conditioning vents.

This allows second-row passengers to adjust their climate independently from the front occupants.

Both variants feature self-levelling two-axle air suspension with Dynamic Damper Control.

The front uses a double-wishbone layout, while the rear employs a sophisticated five-link arrangement.

The BMW X5 currently offers Malaysian buyers two distinct approaches to electrification without changing the core luxury-SUV formula.

At RM470,800, the xDrive40i M Sport combines a smooth 3.0-litre inline-six with 48-VOLT mild-hybrid assistance, producing 375 HP / 381 PS and 540 NM while reaching 100 KM/H in 5.4 seconds.

For just RM24,000 more, the RM494,800 xDrive50e M Sport delivers a considerably stronger 483 HP / 489 PS and 700 NM, cuts the 0-100 KM/H time to 4.8 seconds and provides up to 110 KM WLTP electric range.

Both variants otherwise receive a similarly comprehensive specification including 21-inch M wheels, two-axle air suspension, four-zone climate control, BMW Curved Display, Harman Kardon audio, Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Professional.

The xDrive40i provides the larger 650 L boot and simpler long-distance ownership experience, while the xDrive50e sacrifices some luggage space for meaningful electric commuting capability.

With only a relatively small price difference between them, the xDrive50e remains particularly compelling for owners able to charge regularly, while the xDrive40i is better suited to drivers who want the X5 experience without relying on external charging infrastructure.
