The AION Y Plus is a fully electric five-seat crossover with MPV-like packaging, combining a tall one-box body with an unusually long wheelbase and a spacious passenger cabin.

The current Malaysian range comprises two fully imported variants – Elite and Premium – priced at RM119,800 and RM135,800 respectively, on-the-road without insurance.

Both use a single front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150 KW (201 HP) and 225 NM, paired with a 63.2 KWH Magazine Battery 2.0 LFP battery.

AION Malaysia’s current specification quotes 490 KM NEDC, while the model’s original Malaysian launch specification rated it at 430 KM WLTP.

The cabin uses a simple horizontal dashboard dominated by a large 14.6-INCH central touchscreen.

A separate 10.25-INCH digital instrument cluster sits directly ahead of the driver.

The minimalist layout and thin dashboard help reinforce the cabin’s unusually spacious appearance.

A table-like floating centre console sits between the front occupants.

It incorporates cup holders, storage compartments and selected vehicle controls while leaving useful open storage beneath.

The Premium additionally receives a wireless smartphone charging pad.

A 10.25-INCH full-LCD digital instrument cluster displays speed, battery charge, remaining range and other vehicle information.

Its horizontal layout complements the much larger 14.6-inch infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard.

Both variants feature leatherette upholstery and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

The Elite uses a four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat.

The Premium upgrades the passenger seat to four-way electric adjustment and also adds driver’s seat ventilation and Easy Entry and Exit functionality.

The rear seats fold in a 60:40 split.

The AION Y Plus accommodates five occupants.

Its 2,750 MM wheelbase and largely flat rear floor provide exceptional rear passenger room relative to its overall dimensions.

The rear seats can also recline substantially, while the front seats can be arranged together with the rear seats to create a lounge-like resting configuration when stationary.

A multifunction steering wheel provides controls for audio, Bluetooth and selected vehicle functions.

Both tilt and telescopic adjustment are provided.

Electric Power Steering is standard across the range.

The cabin provides a centre armrest storage compartment, glove box, door pockets and open centre-console storage.

The unusually flat floor and one-box body shape create additional usable cabin space compared with many conventional compact SUVs.

The Y Plus provides two front cup holders within the centre-console area.

The Premium additionally receives a rear centre armrest with two cup holders, while the Elite omits the rear centre armrest.

Front and rear USB ports are provided across both variants.

A 12 V socket is fitted at the front.

The Premium additionally receives wireless smartphone charging and 3.3 KW Vehicle-to-Load functionality.

The Elite does not include V2L according to the current Malaysian specification.

The Y Plus combines leatherette upholstery with hard-wearing plastics and distinctive decorative trim.

A large panoramic glass roof is standard on both variants, significantly increasing the sense of cabin openness.

The Premium further adds 32-colour ambient lighting with a music-responsive mode, giving the higher variant a more premium atmosphere after dark.

Rear luggage capacity stands at 405 L with the second-row seats upright.

Folding the 60:40 split rear bench expands maximum luggage capacity to approximately 1,200 L.

The tall roof and relatively square rear body make the available space particularly usable for bulky items.

The AION Y Plus measures 4,535 MM long, 1,870 MM wide and 1,650 MM tall, with a generous 2,750 MM wheelbase.

Kerb weight stands at 1,695 KG for the Elite and 1,750 KG for the Premium.

Its long wheelbase relative to overall length contributes significantly to the Y Plus’ spacious passenger compartment.

The front adopts a distinctive rounded design dominated by AION’s signature Angel Wing lighting arrangement.

A largely enclosed upper fascia reflects the fully electric drivetrain, while the lower bumper incorporates cooling openings and sculpted aerodynamic surfaces.

The result is considerably more playful and unconventional than the conventional SUV styling used by many competitors.

The rear retains the tall, upright profile required to maximise passenger and luggage space.

A distinctive Skyline connected LED tail-light design stretches horizontally across the rear, while a roof-mounted spoiler completes the upper section.

The Premium additionally receives a hands-free powered tailgate, while the Elite uses a conventional manually operated tailgate.

Both variants feature distinctive Angel Wing LED headlamps.

Seven fan-shaped daytime running-light elements create a recognisable lighting signature.

Automatic headlamp operation and Follow-Me-Home lighting are also standard.

The AION Y Plus uses full-width Skyline connected LED tail lamps.

The slim lighting strip extends across much of the rear body and visually emphasises the vehicle’s width.

LED rear fog lighting is also provided.

Both variants feature electrically adjustable, heated and power-folding exterior mirrors.

Integrated LED turn indicators are fitted within the housings.

The mirrors automatically fold when the vehicle is locked.

The Y Plus uses ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear.

Regenerative braking works alongside the conventional friction brakes to recover energy during deceleration.

Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold is standard across both variants.

The Elite rides on 17-INCH aluminium alloy wheels fitted with 215/55 R17 tyres.

The Premium upgrades to 18-INCH alloy wheels wrapped in lower-profile 215/50 R18 tyres.

Both variants are also equipped with a space-saving spare tyre.

Both variants feature ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control and Electronic Stability Programme.

Hill Hold Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system are also standard.

The Premium additionally receives Autonomous Emergency Braking as part of its more comprehensive ADAS package.

Both variants are equipped with six airbags, comprising dual front airbags, front-side airbags and curtain airbags.

Five three-point seat belts, seatbelt reminders for front and rear occupants and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points are also provided.

AION’s Magazine Battery 2.0 incorporates extensive thermal and structural protection for the high-voltage battery.

Four main driving settings are provided – Eco, Normal, Sport and i-Pedal.

Eco prioritises efficiency, while Sport provides sharper accelerator response.

i-Pedal increases regenerative braking and allows stronger one-pedal-style deceleration during urban driving.

A large 14.6-INCH central touchscreen is standard across both variants.

It supports Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity and FM radio, while also providing access to climate and vehicle settings.

The display is one of the largest offered in an EV at this price point.

The Elite has a relatively basic assistance specification, with conventional Cruise Control rather than adaptive functionality.

The Premium adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Intelligent Cruise Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.

The Premium is therefore considerably stronger from an active-safety perspective despite sharing the same drivetrain and battery with the Elite.

Both variants feature a six-speaker Bongiovi audio system.

Bongiovi digital processing is used to enhance the soundstage and audio clarity throughout the cabin.

Music can be accessed through Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and supported media connections.

Being fully electric, the AION Y Plus replaces a combustion engine with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor.

Both Elite and Premium produce 150 KW (201 HP) and 225 NM.

There is no performance difference between the two variants.

The motor is connected to a single-speed automatic electric reduction transmission.

Electric torque is delivered directly without conventional multi-speed gear changes.

Both variants use front-wheel drive.

The single electric motor exclusively powers the front axle.

The layout prioritises packaging efficiency and straightforward everyday driving rather than high-performance dynamics.

Both variants accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in 8.5 seconds.

AION Malaysia does not publish an official maximum speed figure for the current Malaysian specification.

Performance is therefore best described as adequate for daily commuting rather than particularly rapid by modern EV standards.

As a fully electric vehicle, the Y Plus consumes no petrol or diesel.

Both variants use a 63.2 KWH lithium iron phosphate Magazine Battery 2.0 operating on a 400-VOLT electrical architecture.

The current Malaysian specification quotes 490 KM NEDC range, while the earlier Malaysian launch homologation figure was 430 KM WLTP.

Maximum AC charging input is 6.6 KW, while CCS2 DC fast charging reaches 80 KW.

AION Malaysia does not publish standardised AC or DC charging-time figures in its current specification sheet.

The Premium additionally supports 3.3 KW V2L, while the Elite does not.

Standard equipment includes keyless entry, seamless start, automatic headlamps, powered folding mirrors and four one-touch anti-pinch windows.

Both variants also receive a panoramic glass roof with sunshade and electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

The Premium adds hands-free powered tailgate operation, wireless smartphone charging, driver-seat ventilation and Easy Entry and Exit functionality.

The Y Plus features single-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear air-conditioning vents.

A PM2.5 cabin filter is also included.

The large cabin and dedicated rear vents make the Y Plus particularly well suited to carrying rear passengers in Malaysia’s climate.

The Y Plus uses MacPherson independent front suspension and a torsion-beam rear arrangement.

Its long wheelbase and comfort-oriented suspension calibration contribute to a generally relaxed ride.

The Elite’s smaller 17-inch wheels and taller tyre sidewalls provide slightly more compliance over rough road surfaces than the Premium’s 18-inch setup.

The electric drivetrain eliminates conventional combustion-engine vibration and significantly reduces mechanical noise during urban driving.

The long cabin and relatively upright body mean some wind and tyre noise becomes noticeable at higher speeds.

Nevertheless, overall refinement remains appropriate for an EV positioned between RM120,000 and RM136,000.

The AION Y Plus remains one of the more unusual electric vehicles in Malaysia, combining compact exterior dimensions with an exceptionally spacious, MPV-like cabin.

Both variants offer the same 201 HP, 225 NM, 63.2 KWH LFP battery and 430 KM WLTP equivalent launch range, so the RM119,800 Elite provides the strongest value if outright drivetrain performance and space are the priorities.

However, its lack of AEB, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist is increasingly difficult to overlook as similarly priced newer EVs offer comprehensive ADAS as standard.

The RM135,800 Premium addresses this weakness by adding a far more complete driver-assistance suite, together with 18-inch wheels, powered front passenger seat, driver-seat ventilation, wireless charging, ambient lighting, powered tailgate and 3.3 KW V2L.

Its 80 KW DC and 6.6 KW AC charging rates are now modest by current standards, but the combination of a 2,750 MM wheelbase, 405 L boot, panoramic roof and extremely spacious rear cabin continues to give the Y Plus a distinctive advantage for buyers prioritising passenger space.
