Perodua Alza & Traz Launch In Sri Lanka From RM234k — Here’s Why
![]()
If you think local car prices in Malaysia are steep, wait until you see what our favourite national cars go for overseas.
Perodua has officially expanded its export lineup to Sri Lanka, introducing its latest SUV, the Perodua Traz, alongside its top-selling 7-seater MPV, the Perodua Alza. Distributed via United Motors Lanka PLC (through Unimo Enterprises), both Completely Built-Up (CBU) models carry price tags that will make any Malaysian do a double-take: introductory prices start at Rs. 19.2 million (approx. RM233,957) for the Traz and climb up to Rs. 19.95 million (approx. RM243,090) for the Alza.
Before you start wondering why a humble family MPV costs luxury apartment money in Colombo, here is everything you need to know about Perodua's global moves, and why their cars command such eye-watering figures overseas.
Why Do Malaysian Cars Cost Over RM230k In Sri Lanka?

In Malaysia, the Perodua Alza retails between RM62,500 and RM75,500, while the newly introduced Perodua Traz sits around RM76,100 to RM81,100. Seeing both models cross the RM240,000 threshold overseas comes down to one primary factor: local taxation and tariffs.
Although official figures weren't disclosed in the press release, Sri Lanka's vehicle import tax policy explains the RM230k+ price tags. High compounding duties, encompassing Customs Duty, engine-displacement Excise Duty, Luxury Tax, and VAT, mean imported CBU cars typically see their landed retail prices multiplied by 3x to 4x compared to their home market.
Despite these premium sticker prices, demand remains robust. Group CEO of United Motors Lanka PLC, Mr. Chanaka Yatawara, revealed that the company has sold close to 3,000 Perodua vehicles since import restrictions were lifted, proving that Sri Lankan drivers continue to trust the build quality, reliability, and fuel efficiency of Malaysian engineering.

Over 20,000 Peroduas Sold In Sri Lanka Since 1997

Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad highlighted that Sri Lanka remains one of the national automaker's most vital international markets, recording over 20,000 cumulative sales over the past three decades.
Currently, Perodua actively exports CBU models to 6 key markets:
- Brunei
- Fiji
- Mauritius
- Bangladesh
- Papua New Guinea
- Sri Lanka
Taking their global expansion a step further, Perodua has also ventured into exporting Pre-Owned Vehicles, officially expanding into Timor Leste this year.
Local Icons, Global Reach
First launched locally in December 2025, the Perodua Traz was built around the concept of "Engineered Simplicity", designed to meet daily driver expectations with high fuel efficiency, modern safety features, and everyday practical utility.
Meanwhile, the second-generation Perodua Alza continues its reign as a crowd favourite both at home and abroad. In Malaysia alone, the MAA reported 19,504 units registered between January and June 2026, cementing its position as the go-to family MPV.
