Loyal readers and followers of CariCarz.com will now by now that national carmaker Proton is set to enter the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) marketspace soon. With a little help from partners Geely, it promises to be an electrifying debut indeed.

Ahead of which, the national carmaker has also taken a novel step towards said EV debut, which will be marketed under a new brand it seems. Announced earlier this week, Proton, through its Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) arm, has kick-started a contest to guess the name of this upcoming EV brand.

"This contest isn't just about naming a brand; it's about inviting Malaysians to be integral participants in shaping the future of mobility," said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET. The exec adds this contest also acts as yet another sign of the national carmaker’s readiness at entering the EV space.

Up to eight winners will be selected, but only one stands to win the grand prize of RM5,000 cash, followed by RM1,500 and RM1,000 cash prizes for the first and second runners-up respectively. Beyond which, five more winners will be picked to win RM100 cash each.
