Rapid KL Safety Point Launched In Eight LRT & MRT Stations

Eight Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations were chosen as initial emergency basic response centres through the Rapid KL Safety Point (RSP) program. This was announced on 19th October by President and Chief Executive Officer of the Prasarana Group En. Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah.

The RSP program is a continuation from the earlier Go To Safety Point (GTSP) program which was announced by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) back in 2013 which saw petrol stations and convenience stores taken up as partners to make the program a success. 

En. Mohd Azharuddin during the launch said that this initiative would increase the confidence of the public transport users and indirectly help reduce incidences of crime on public transport and in the stations.

He further added, "Handling mass volume of passengers is the responsibility of Rapid KL's frontline staff to ensure their comfort is always taken care off”. "All our frontline staff have the skills required to handle emergency situations and are always ready to provide assistance to passengers who need help. The RSP training program is part of the frontline operation officers basic syllabus”.

For the start, eight (8) rail stations would be involved and special stickers would be clearly displayed indicating those stations offer emergency assistance to those in need.

Adding on further, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said, "We are very grateful to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd for this collaboration with the authorities to fight crime in line with the government's desire to make the city centre a safe and comfortable zone."

As for the role and responsibility of Rapid KL in this program would basically be to provide space to facilitate emergency treatment to users who need help, provide a place for victims to rest and to contact the police and ambulance should the victim be injured.

The stations involved in this RSP program are Kampung Batu MRT station, Pasar Seni LRT and MRT stations, Masjid Jamek LRT Station (Kelana Jaya Line and Ampang Line), KL Sentral LRT Station, KLCC LRT Station and Bukit Bintang MRT Station. These stations are selected to kick off this pilot project based on the volume of passengers and tourist it handles.
